Belmont is a suburb in the Hunter Region of New South Wales, Australia, located 20 kilometres from Newcastle’s central business district on the eastern side of Lake Macquarie and is part of the City of Lake Macquarie.

With the ocean on one side and the lake on the other, it is surrounded by water and is a hotspot for summer tourism in Lake Macquarie and Newcastle with the abundance of Lake and Ocean activities available.

Belmont has many attractions in the area. It also has 2 major shopping centres being anchored by Coles and Woolworths shops. It has an abundance of accommodation options and caravan parks on the lake.

Belmont also hosts the start of the Fernleigh walking track, which extends most of the way into the Newcastle area.

The biggest local club is called Belmont 16’s  It is located with it’s balcony overlooking the Belmont Lake on The Parade, Belmont NSW 2280. It hosts many sailing regattas almost weekly on Belmont Bay in Lake Macquarie. Many international and world champion sailors originate from the Belmont 16’s sailing club.

Sailability is a disabled sailing charity run at the Club. They sail Tuesday to Friday for 47 weeks of the year teaching disabled people to sail. They learn skills, basic maintenance and develop independence while sailing – all under the supervision of qualified teachers. It uses the boatshed based at the 16’s as a base for the charity to run.

Belmont Golf Club (link below) is home to a 18 hole Par 72 Championship Links course set amongst rolling green fairways and trees with many of the fairways having the Pacific Ocean as their backdrop. Belmont is a links style golf course on the back 9, and a tree lined front 9. It features 18 holes, and a large clubhouse with driving range, pro shop and hosts the Lake Macquarie Pro-Am every January long weekend. It is a hard course to play in the wind and overlooks Blacksmiths Beach for several kilometres.
